2030 and the Second Coming

Based on a number of clues given in the Scriptures, there is good reason to expect the Lord Jesus Christ to return in 2030. Some Scriptures that point to this particular year:

  1. The Prophet Hosea said the Lord will return to His place until Israel seeks Him, then they will be revived after two days and raised on the third day.  “I will go away and return to My place until they acknowledge their guilt and seek My face”...He will revive us after two days; He will raise us up on the third day. Hosea 5:15-6:3.
  2. Answering last days skeptics who will cry, “Where is the promise of His coming?” the Apostle Peter stated, ...with the Lord one day is like a thousand years.  II Peter 3:4,8.
  3. Jesus stayed with the Samaritan woman, who was a prophetic type of the Church, for two days. John 4:40.
  4. Jesus deliberately remained two days before crossing the Jordan to raise Lazarus. Crossing the Jordan into Israel is a prophetic type of the Second Coming. John 11:6.
  5. The Good Samaritan, a prophetic type of Christ, gave the innkeeper two dinarii to care for the wounded man, promising to return and settle the account. Equaling two day’s wages, the two dinarii may be a prophetic type of the two “days” that would pass until the Lord’s return.
  6. If the Church age is prophesied to last 2,000 years, which began with the day of Pentecost, which most scholars calculate to be in 30 AD, then the return of Christ should be no later than 2030.
  7. Jesus said when the fig tree begins to bud, this generation will not pass away before all these things are fulfilled. A generation does not completely pass away until after 120 years, the maximum life span decreed just before the flood. The fig tree represents Israel in Biblical symbolism so many agree that the return of the Jews to the Promised Land and the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948 was the event the Lord was indicating. Matthew 24:32-35.
  8. Jesus promised to return after the Tribulation to gather the elect, so the Tribulation will begin 7 years before the Appearance, Rapture and Second Coming in 2030, meaning the Tribulation will start in 2023.
  9. Mankind seems to have been given 7 “days,” or seven thousand years from Adam until the completion of human history on the judgment day. From Adam to Abraham was about 2,000 years, from Abraham to Christ was about 2,000 years, and the Messianic age when Christ rules on earth is a Sabbath “day” of 1,000 years. This leaves no more than 2,000 years for the Church age to be completed before the Second Coming, reinforcing the prophetic type of 2,000 year “days” as Hosea and John seem to also predict.
  10. A Jubilee for Israel occurs every 49 years (7x7 years). The Jubilee is a year of restoration, when slaves were set free, each family returned to their property and the land was rested (Leviticus 25:8-11). In 2023 there will have been a total of 70 jubilees since Israel crossed the Jordan into the Promised Land in 1406 BC:* 7x7x70=3430-1406=2024-1=2023+7=2030 (there is no year 0, so we subtract 1 year* from 2024). In other words, 70 Jubilees plus 7 will  mark the year of Christ’s Second Coming (7x7x70+7) in 2030.
  11. 2023 marks 70 Jubilees since the battle of Jericho in 1406 BC when Rahab was taken out following the 7th trumpet on the 7th day of battle. Fulfilling this prophetic type, the Tribulation will begin 70 Jubilees after the battle of Jericho and last 7 years after which the Church will also be taken out at the 7th trumpet in the year 2030 or after 7X7X70+7 years .

So we can see strong Biblical evidence for a 2030 return of Christ

The story of Joseph may predict a seven year period of abundance given to prepare for the Tribulation

Joseph was told that there would be seven years of abundance to prepare Egypt for the seven years of famine that would follow. Genesis 41:25-49. This may be a prophetic type of a seven year period of abundance that will precede the Tribulation as a time for the Church and Israel to prepare. This principal of Divine warning to make preparation for a specified period of tribulation is seen in other Biblical examples:

Believers will be given clear signs that the Lord is near

“Now learn the parable of the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near; so, you too, when you see all these things, recognize that He is near, right at the door. Truly I way to you, this generation will hot pass away until all these things take place.”  Matthew 24:32-35

“But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because you redemption is drawing near. So you also when you see these things happening, recognize that the kingdom of God is near.” Luke 21: 28-29.

To set or not to set a date

Many are critical of anyone attempting to set a date for the return of Christ, pointing to Scriptures such as Matthew 24:36: “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. ” This is certainly true, however, it does not preclude the possibility of knowing the year and season. Anyone who attempts to set a date is certainly sticking their neck out. Although exact day setting does serve a purpose of quickly identifying false teachers who portray themselves as prophets or the only true Church. Since the 19th Century many cults and sects have set various exact days for the Second Coming which have proven wrong again and again, but surprisingly some of them are still going strong in spite of it. Some prophecy teachers have used a more vague type of date setting, pointing to some general time in the near future. This usually lets them off the hook if their predictions prove to be wrong.

“You...are not in darkness that the day would overtake you like a thief”

As the Lord said in Luke 21, “But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” The Scriptures tell us that we will know when He is at the door so we can conclude that even though no one can know the exact day and hour, informed Christians will certainly recognize when He is near, possibly within weeks. However, because of prevailing deceptions, the world will be completely taken by surprise: “For you yourselves know that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. While they are saying, “Peace and safety!’” then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. But you, brethren are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief.” I Thessalonians 5:2-4. It is clear from this Scripture that Christ’s appearance will not come like a thief in the night to well informed believers, but only to unbelievers.

*Israel left Egypt in 1446 BC, and ate manna in the wilderness for 40 years (Exodus 16:35) until they crossed the Jordan into Canaan. This puts their entrance into the Promised Land and the beginning of the 49 year Jubilee cycles in the year 1406 BC. I Kings 6:1 states that Solomon began to build the Temple 480 years after Israel left Egypt. The Temple was started in 966 BC so 966+480=1446-40=1406 BC. Jubilees are announced with a trumpet on the Day of Atonement, which occurs during the fall on the tenth day of the seventh month (Hebrew calendar).

*Calculating dates that span BC and AD:  3, 2, 1 BC, 1, 2, 3 AD =5 total years because there is no year zero so one year must be subtracted from the sum total of the two dates (3BC + 3AD =6 -1=5 total years).

Summary

There is strong evidence from the Scriptures which point to the return of Christ in 2030. Hosea’s prophecy that Israel would be revived after two days, the Lord’s two day stay with the Samaritan woman and His two day delay before crossing the Jordan to raise Lazarus, all seem to prophetically point to a two thousand year time decreed for the Church age. The seven millennial “days” of human history also points to a two thousand year Church age. 30 AD being the most likely date of Christ’s death and resurrection suggests that the Church age will be finished by the end of 2030. The Fig Tree Parable suggests the Lord must return sometime within 120 years after Israel’s rebirth in 1948. Christ will appear on the clouds and the Rapture will occur after the 7th Trumpet 70 years plus 7 after Israel entered the Promised Land and fought the battle of Jericho in 1406 BC, taking Rahab out after the 7th Trumpet on the 7th day. The Scriptures are clear that no one will know the day and hour of Christ’s return but are equally clear that believers will know when He is at the door and like Joseph, may get 7 years advanced warning to prepare for the Tribulation.
